On Sunday of SXSWi, I met up with Eric Leist, emerging tech strategist and co-host of the About Foursquare podcast and Tech Interruption and Benedict Corpuz, flight attendant and true mayor of the San Francisco Airport, to record the weekly About Foursquare Podcast. Shaky cellphone pic:
As an enthusiast, I’m a fan of this weekly podcast, and highly encourage other users to listen. Eric and Ching Yu highlight important foursquare/LBS news of the week, discuss new badges and offer great insight and interviews. It’s really great to listen to while at work – if you don’t have a regular podcast habit, this could be your gateway drug.
This was my 4th time as a guest on the podcast, which you can listen to here. Comment on the post and get a chance to win a Dunkin’ Donuts gift card. Right before we started recording, I spit my gum out into a foursquare napkin that I picked up with coffee at the foursquare court, but didn’t use so I pocketed it. Eric and Benedict were very amused with my fangirlness.
Things continue to move quickly here at Foursquare Day HQ with only 64 days to go until Foursquare Day 2011! Following our guest appearance on the About Foursquare podcast we were invited to guest moderate Foursquare Chat. During the chat we made several major announcements including our call for Foursquare Day Slogan ideas and the debut of the first official Foursquare Day 2011 partners!
We kicked off the announcements by announcing our first partner, About Foursquare. We had the opportunity to be a guest on the About Foursquare podcast and talk Foursquare Day and they will continue to help us spread the word of Foursquare Day 2011 far and wide on their blog and podcast.
Next we shared word that DontTwive, who was a partner last year, would be joining us again as an official partner in 2011. DontTwive will be helping to keep people safe on Foursquare Day by raising awareness of responsible tweeting – don’t tweet and drive!
Then we debuted 7point1squared as a Foursquare Day 2011 partner. 7point1squared is using foursquare to help local businesses who were affected by the devastating 2010 Canterbury earthquake, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in New Zealand.
We were also pleased to announce Untappd as a Foursquare Day 2011 partner. They have a great app that makes use of the foursquare API. Foursquare Indy team member Andy Huston put it best when he said “Untappd is a natural partner for Foursquare Day.”
Speaking of Foursquare Indy, we closed out the chat by announcing 4sqCHAT and 4sqCHAT organizer Foursquare Indy as Foursquare Day 2011 partners. They’ll help us spread the word and connect local Foursquare Day organizers and fans together on Twitter.
We’re very proud and pleased to be able to partner with these great groups and organizations for Foursquare Day 2011 and we’re looking for more partners to join in! If you’d like to join in partnering with Foursquare Day for Foursquare Day 2011 we’d like to know about it: please drop us a line to let us know how you can help make Foursquare Day 2011 amazing.
In the meantime, Foursquare Day fans we also need your help with our Foursquare Day slogan and in other ways as well. Local Foursquare Day organizers, we haven’t forgotten about you! Please keep an eye on this space for how Foursquare Day HQ can help YOU.
One final note – you may notice this post was authored by a new name to the Foursquare Day HQ blog. Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Walter Elly- you might already know me from my work on the Portsmouth Foursquare team and as @walterelly on Twitter. I’m now also a member of the Foursquare Day HQ team and I’ve picked up the task of managing this blog, so you’ll be seeing more posts from me as we head towards Foursquare Day 2011. I’m proud to be here!
