We are happy to announce that foursquare has released the 2012 #4sqDay badge, art design and t-shirt. We’re super proud to unveil the new #4sqDay 2012 logo and confirm that users will be able to unlock a 4sqDay badge by checking in on April 16th, 2012! We have exactly one month until #4sqDay, and so many communities have a lot of awesome events planned.
This year, we are also bringing back the friendly competition on Meetup. If you are a community leader, be sure to sign up your city on Meetup and start getting those RSVPs. You can check the leader board here. At the time of this post, Seoul is leading the world with the most people committed to #4sqDay. Last year, of the top 10 cities with the most RSVPs, 7 were International.
The foursquare (lawyers) have given permission to let users borrow the art work for #4sqDay. Please read, then reread the Guidelines and then fill out the agreement form.
Of course, these types of things don’t just happen overnight! Our hats are off to foursquare for their amazing efforts and for showing such tremendous support to the foursquare community. It’s amazing what we can all accomplish together and we’re proud to be part of this community!
To recap:
- Find your community on Meetup and RSVP
- Check the Worldwide Meetup Leader Board and see if you are winning
- If you are not winning, promote your city and event (if you are winning, keep it up)
- Get your Mayor to Proclaim April 16th as #4sqDay (not sure how?)
- Tweet us @4sqDay that you are going to a #4sqDay event
- Buy the #4sqDay 2012 t-shirt (not yet available)

“Last year, of the top 10 cities with the most RSVPs, 7 were International.” That’s a very American-centric point of view. Fine, if Foursquare is “just” an American thing. But you’re not. You have customers around the world. An alternate – and just as bad – way of reading what you’ve said is actually “Last year, of the 10 cities with the most RSVPs, only 3 were from the US”. How would that go down with your US customers ? How about saying that of the top 10 cities, “x” countries were represented instead ?
Come on, guys, when you write your releases, write them as a global organisation.

Adam:
For someone describing himself as an amateur, you are really showing your colors with the comment above.
First of all, the original posting was create by the 4sqday blog, not foursquare the application company. Second, this is an American company, based in USA, so more than understandable that they use USA as a parameter. Nothing diminishing to the other countries. This a blog to promote the application, the users and businesses, nothing else related to politics or ethnicity.
Happy 4sq Day!

I didn’t realise it was a personal blog so apologies if I caused offence Foursquare Day. Maybe I was too quick off the mark – it’s just that so many companies which originate in the US but go global forget that they have non-US customers. But you’re doing your thing on your own blog – so go for it !

The way they put it, saying “7 cities were international” only shows they were impressed with how successful the event was around the world. I don’t see that as discriminatory at all.

Yeah! Campo Grande in 8th place. I hope that’s enough for us to get a swag pack. I estimated less then 25 people in the form, didn’t expect that number to increase that much. =)
